Passage makes winning jumps debut
Dermot Weld continued where he left off yesterday when Rite Of Passage claimed the opening maiden hurdle at Leopardstown today.
The colours of Dr Ronan Lambe were carried to victory in the final two races yesterday by Prince Erik and Hidden Universe and again proved victorious.
Robbie McNamara had a scare as his mount was hampered by a loose horse as he hit the front turning in.
The 4/9 favourite recovered with ease, however, to lead on the run-in and record a cosy three-length victory over Grey Soldier
"He did what expected although I was a little bit concerned on the home turn," said Weld.
"He's a very good horse and potentially a very good over hurdles. He'll have one more run over hurdles and if we're happy enough with that he'll go to Cheltenham for one of the novices.
"Whether it's the two-mile or two-mile five we will decide nearer to the time. Trip doesn't worry him.
"He won a bumper over 2m3f and also won over 1m6f on the Flat. He does stay very well.
"He's a very laid back individual and always has gears - which is the sign of a really good horse.
"He's a total natural and a stronger horse this year. He has always jumped super and is a very athletic individual.
"I'm fully aware of the excellence of Dunguib. Lets see where we go. He's very good, so hopefully he stays sound and we have alot of fun with him."
