Markaz Paname was a warm order on his debut in the six-furlong maiden at Cork this afternoon and duly did the business for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane.
The son of Markaz was sent off an 8/11 shot and tracked the leaders before being sent to the front a furlong from home.
Keane kept his mount up to his job in the closing stages as he powered clear for a three-length victory over My Eyes Adore You
Shane Lyons said afterwards:- “He had been doing that at home. We were worried about the ground, because he has a high knee action, but I walked it, and it was lovely.
“Colin rode it and said it was lovely, but he came in and said he wouldn’t want it any quicker. He should only get better as the season goes on.
"There are no winners’ races on the programme, so his hand could be forced to go for the Blenheim (listed race over 6f, September 20th) at Fairyhouse. We’ll take him home and see how he is, and he’s a next-year horse anyway.
“He’s Donal’s (Boylan, owner and breeder from Ennis) first horse with us. He has been away for a while, but he’s had horses with Eddie O’Grady and horses in England, but it’s his first with us, so it’s a good start for everybody.”
The winner is from the family of Elusive City.
