Fresh from his breakthrough Group race success at the Curragh yesterday on Speak In Colours, champion apprentice Shane Crosse was at it again for Joseph O’Brien at headquarters, this time on New York Girl in the Group Three Weld Park Stakes (Fillies).
O’Brien actually sent out the one two here, with the once previously raced maiden New York Girl (12/1) upstaging A New Dawn (6/1) by a neck.
When Ronan Whelan let Know It All role from the two pole it looked a matter of how far the Johnny Murtagh runner would win by.
However she had no more to give inside the last and ended up half a length back in third.
Paddy Power go 33/1 first show about New York Girl for the 1,000 Guineas.
“It was a bit of a surprise but she’s a lovely filly at home and she showed a lot first time out. We just had a question about the ground today but she obviously has a bit of class and put her head down," said Crosse.
“The plan was to get a lead as she is learning and only having her second run but the split came in time. She has a great attitude and hopefully will continue to improve.
“A big thanks has to go to Joseph who is not shy of giving me these opportunities and I’m very grateful to him.”
T.P. Madden, rider of Nope trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount reared up on leaving the starting stalls.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Tasalka trained by D. K. Weld, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have sustained a wound to the lateral aspect of her left hind cannon otherwise was post race normal.
