Frustrating colt Bold Ribb (4/5f) defied a market slide to land Dundalk's View Restaurant Dundalk Apprentice Maiden today, surviving his latest 'oh my God, no' moment to register a belated first success.
The son of Ribchester was a beaten favourite three times from four runs last year, once as 1/4 favourite, and while today's race was eminently winnable under jockey Hugh Horgan, was all-out to hold off runner-up Lauroline .
Trainer Joseph O'Brien's assistant Brendan Powell said "he deserved to get his head in front but I saw the other one flashing home and for a minute I was thinking 'oh my God, no!'
“He is a big, strong horse and has plenty of ability. He does travel well and on the book, had every right to win. I think he is off to the sales in a couple of weeks' time. He is a sound horse and I'm sure he will give somebody fun."
