Storm Desmond was making its presence felt during the second division of the Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Apprentice Handicap but that'll have mattered little to P J O'Hanlon as he rode his first winner aboard Tortueuse
O'Hanlon (17) from Skryne in County Meath is based with Tortueuse's trainer Dermot McLoughlin.
The teenager made all on 20/1 shot Tortueuse and he asked the eight-year-old daughter of Indian Danehill for more, along the inner, from two furlongs out.
Strongly pressed a furlong out Tortueuse stayed on well under pressure inside the final furlong to beat Gold Not Silver by a length.
'Money horses' No Cash Flow and Meadow Cross could do no better than sixth and ninth places respectively.
The Stewards interviewed J.M. Conneely, rider of Rawaafed concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found J.M. Conneely in breach of Reg 10 3.(b) by continuing to use his whip after his chance had clearly gone and having taken his record into account suspended him for two race days.
