Jockey Andrew McNamara completed a double at Wexford today when steering the Eoghan O'Grady trained Headford Flyer to win the Black Point Beginners Chase.
Headford Flyer was under pressure and appeared beaten in fifth place jumping the second last fence. However, the complexion of the race changed as Better Times which had moved into a challenging position turning in, broke a leg and was subsequently put down.
To Headford Flyer's credit, the gelding did battle very well and moved to head Mayo Mystique at after the final fence, staying on well close home.
McNamara was partnering his 40th winner for the season and his second career win for O'Grady who later said “that was sweet eventhough we might have had luck on our side with the unfortunate exit of Better Times, who was going well when he got injured.
“Headford Flyer will be kept going for the summer now and might go for a two miles flat handicap at Clonmel next.”
