Eamonn O'Connell insists Powerstation is not yet a spent force, despite his advancing years, as he lines up in the Betfred Goals Galore Hurdle at Haydock today.

The gelding twice finished third in the World Hurdle behind Big Buck's in 2009 and 2010.

The 12-year-old gelding has been operating at a lower level since but has far less on his plate in the Grade 2, formerly known as the Rendlesham Hurdle, after being outclassed by Voler La Vedette and Zaidpour on his last two outings.

O'Connell said: "We've freshened him up after his last run and he's in very good form.

"As long as the ground isn't too testing, we can see him running well.

"He won at Navan in December and has finished third and fourth against some very good horses, so he's probably still got a little bit of sparkle.

"He won't be going to Cheltenham this year - we'll give him a well-deserved break - so hopefully this can be his big day."
