Breeders Cup winning trainer Joseph O'Brien supplied his cousin jockey J.J. Slevin with a first career treble at Cork today as the pair completed the feat with Top Moon winner of the Kevin McManus Bookmaker Handicap Hurdle.
Slevin, a dual Cheltenham Festival winning jockey, began by steering O'Brien's J.P. McManus owned Front View to win the opener before the pair doubled their score half an hour later with the Gigginstown House Stud owned Midnight Run
Slevin and O'Brien completed the treble with Top Moon who led home a 1-2 for owner McManus when scoring a three and three parts of a length win over similarly owned Morosini
O'Brien was at Punchestown where McManus had another double, with Yanworth and Drop The Anchor and following Top Moon's race at Cork, Slevin stated “that's my first ever treble and I didn't manage to do it in point-to-points.
“He didn't travel, jumped away fine, I thought we were beaten down the back, I thought we were beaten turning for him but he stuck at it well and tried to the line. He had a look going down to the last but actually won well at the line.
“He probably would stay further and he is a four year old too so is a nice horse.”
