Noel Browne pops up at Punchestown

Wed 16th Feb 2011, 15:14

Noel Browne in the Kerryhead Windfarm colours of Jimmy Browne, caused a 20/1 surprise in division two of the Festival Hospitality Maiden Hurdle under Philip Enright for Tom Cooper at Punchestown.

The free-going Burren Bridge looked a winner in the straight in this two miler but he paid for his earlier exertions in the testing conditions and he was mown down late by Noel Browne with the well-backed favourite Flying Light (3/1 this morning into 7/4) staying on too late, grabbing the second, half a length adrift of the winner.

Winning trainer Tom Cooper, said of the half-brother to the aforementioned Kerryhead Windfarm: "That's a pleasant surprise. It's been one thing and another with him. He's not been right and he's a horse that's had a lot of respiratory problems. He was bang on today though."
