Sam Ewing rode his first winner for John Murphy when guiding Crescent Lake home by two and a half lengths in the DundalkStadium.com Handicap.
Owned by sisters Paola Hewins and Olivia Hoare, the Oasis Dream gelding came good at the seventh time of asking with cheek-pieces applied for the second time.
He chased the leaders this evening, and was pushed along to lead under two furlongs out. Soon ridden the three-year-old stayed on well in the final furlong to see off evens favourite Happaugue
Murphy’s George said:- “He did that very nicely. He had a few lovely runs in maidens and had one poor run on very testing ground. That's more like what we thought of him.
“He handled the surface very well and hopefully can progress away nicely through the winter.”
Sam Ewing, rider of Crescent Lake (GB) trained by John Joseph Murphy, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung right under pressure.
The Stewards informed a representative of A.J.Martin, trainer, that should his charge Nibiru repeat his behaviour in the starting stalls by standing still and refusing to jump off with the other runners when the gates open may render the animal liable to a suspension from running from starting stalls.
