There was a surprise in the firstofsummerwine.com Maiden Hurdle when 25/1 shot More Claret from the Kevin O'Donnell stable came home in front under Tom Doyle.

Doyle sent the Beneficial filly to the front at the fourth flight and the pair were clearing entering the straight and kept on well on the run-in to hold off the fast finishing Lea Lady by three parts of a length.

Winning jockey Doyle said afterwards: "She was a bit green in front but she got the job done and she did it well."

The 6/5 favourite The Recovery finished in a well beaten eighth.
