Monty’s Miracle was an all the way winner of the 1m 6f maiden at Killarney at odds of 14/1, proving too strong for the market leaders Run For Mary (11/4) and Gardens Of Babylon (4/6 fav). The step-up in trip seemed to bring out the best in the Shamardal filly, who is related to smart stayers including Naughty Or Nice and Dark Crusader, and she came forward a good deal from her Bellewstown third-placed finish to score by two lengths and three quarter of a length.
Winning jockey Ross Coakley said afterwards ,“The penny is only starting to drop with her. You can discount her first couple of runs as she was very raw and they were over a trip that was inadequate.
“The last day around Bellewstown probably sharpened her up a good deal, and she stayed on well that day so the trip today played to her strengths.
“Niall McCullagh was suspended today and it would have been his ride but he said all she will do is gallop and to try and buck her out in front.
“She lengthened all the way to the line, and is a well-bred filly so it’s important to get her a winning bracket. Hopefully she can progress a bit more.”
