Off a 225 day absence Miss Cedille justified favouritism in the Tullamore (Mares) Maiden Hurdle at Kilbeggan.
The Wexford partnership of trainer Liz Doyle and jockey Sean Flanagan combined with this nine times previously raced grey, and on her second outing over hurdles she backed-up the confidence of those that supported her from 100/30 into 9/4.
The French-bred Martaline mare was three and a half lengths and a length and a quarter too good for Family Business and Where’s Bunny. Miss Cedille was never far away before making her winning move to the front two out.
“She had a huge tumor the size of a grapefruit removed from her scull about a year ago so it’s a super day for everyone involved. We didn’t even think she was going to survive," revealed the winning handler.
“One in twenty are benign and thankfully she was the one. Her face is a bit disheveled but it doesn’t affect her and she’s a very happy horse.
“She’s recovered very well from the operation and a nice bit of ground and probably a weak race helped her. She’s qualified for the five grand bonus as well so it’s great for the owners who have persevered with her.
“I think we had the best form in the race and it was just a matter of getting her organised and it was a beautiful ride.
“She jumped well and hopefully we can go for a mares’ handicap or a rated novice."
