Tony McCoy showed just why he’s been crowned champion jump jockey in Britain for the past 19 years when galvanising Jumptoconclusions to get up on the line in the Kerrymaid Novice Handicap Hurdle at Cork.
The well-backed 3/1 favourite, available at 11/2 this morning and supported from 4/1 into 3’s on track, appeared to have it all to do as Old Time Melody surged ahead after the last.
However McCoy in his typical ‘never say die’ style got the J P McManus-owned gelding up virtually in the final stride to score by a short-head. Samanntom could find no extra from the last to finish a further two and three quarter lengths back in third, with Shesaportrait in fourth.
Winning trainer Edward O’Grady said, “For a young horse he stayed on well. He needed all the assistance (from the saddle) and he got it.
“Maybe on better ground he could go a bit further.”
