Mawaany provided Ger Lyons and Colin Keane with their third winner of the weekend, as he took the Cross' Supervalu Handicap.

Previously trained by Michael Stoute in the UK, the four-year-old son of Teofilo made a winning debut for Lyons and owner David Spratt at Dundalk in January.

Sent off at 4/1 today, the grey gelding was settled behind the leaders by Keane. He was ridden to challenge from the two furlong pole and soon got to the front, keeping on well inside the final furlong to score by three lengths. Lady Derrynane (6/1) ran on well to take second under Niall McCullagh for Jessica Harrington, while Bay Hill (11/2) was a short head back in third under Sean Davis for Christy Roche. Aared was sent off the 3/1 favourite and he finished fourth.

Lyons said afterwards: "I'm delighted with him. He's another one of David's super purchases that he has been finding.

"He won his maiden in January and we knew we wouldn't risk him again on that surface so we waited and waited.

"This is a nice place to start off and hopefully we can rise up the ranks into a premier handicap.

"He'll get a little bit further and that's where the improvement will come from hopefully.

"That ground is beautiful after the rain came. A lot of the horses we ran this weekend probably wouldn't have run if the rain hadn't come."
