Father and daughter combination James and Jane Mangan teamed up successfully for the second time in four days with Dont Tell Pa when he won by half a length at Limerick.
The 4/1 shot, under a mandatory 6lb penalty for winning at Tramore on Thursday, moved ominously well into contention before two out in the two and a quarter mile handicap hurdle here.
Jane Mangan though faced a battle after the last from Bryan Cooper and The Boys Don’t Know who appeared to be going even more strongly.
Don’t Tell Pa stuck out his head well and fought all the way to the line to reward favourite backers. He was the first reserve in the race, but got in as Pink Coat, Banna Man and Daggers Bond came out.
The Boys Don’t Know took second at 14/1 and Mia’s Vic (5/1) and Khan Tengri (14/1) came home third and fourth respectively in this 16-runner race.
Trainer Jimmy Mangan said: “I have to say I didn’t fancy him today. If I knew it was as soft I wouldn’t have come here, but I’m pleasantly surprised.
“A lot of lads who rode him said he wouldn’t go on soft ground because he does like firm.
“We were going to let him off after today, but we’ll keep him going now.”
