Jane Mangan has built up a profitable association with the Gordon Elliott yard this season, and she made it six wins from just nine mounts for the Co. Meath handler when riding out her 7lb claim on Barneys Honour in the Black Point Handicap Hurdle.

This was a far from straight forward success as the talented amateur was hard at work on the top-weight from a long way out, and Six Stone Ned looked set to score when cruising to the front two out.

However Mangan’s persistence got her upsides that rival when the grey crashed out at the final flight, leaving the 5/2 favourite clear to beat Paco Jack (16/1) by four lengths. Zekarya (12/1) was a further seven and a half lengths adrift in third.

Elliott said, “She’s some girl, she gave him a brilliant ride. The only pity is that her 7lb claim is now gone. She’s ridden six winners for me this season.”

“We’re lucky that we have two of the best girl jockeys in the world riding for us. It was too sharp for him around here but he won anyway.”
