Line Out provided a 14/1 surprise when taking the featured M J Carroll Arro Handicap Hurdle on the final day of the Listowel Festival meeting.

The John Kiely-trained gelding has been lightly-raced since scoring twice in the summer of 2017 but showed the benefit of a run at Killarney last month to take this 2m4f event.

The seven-year-old was given a typically patient ride by Denis O'Regan, challenging before the last and leading on the run-in to get the better of the always prominent Sky Marshal by a head. Cusp Of Carabelli was two and three quarters lengths back in third.

O'Regan said, “Basically John Kiely told me how to win on him. He said whatever you do don't hit the front too soon on him.

“I was able to get a breather turning in as I was going ok then and it would have been easy to go on. Thankfully I'd enough in reserve at the end.

“It was a good training performance to get him back as I was a bit disappointed with him in Killarney the last day but he's come forward a good bit from the race.”
