Legacy Of Dreams sprang a 28/1 surprise in the CUBE Handicap Chase and could afford to be eased down by Simon Torrens in the closing stages.

Successful in a point-to-point at Tinahely in October, the Philip Rothwell-trained eight-year-old was third over flights at Fairyhouse on New Year's Day, failing to make a significant impact on his next five starts.

Settled behind the leaders, the Christopher Beirne-owned eight-year-old led from six out and went a few lengths clear on the approach to the straight.

Ridden before the second last, he went further clear on the run to the final fence and while he made a slight mistake there, he recovered quickly, going to on record an easy 10 length win.

Returned the 13/8 favourite, Winnie Woodnutt filled the runner-up spot under Alex Harvey, while Meehall (10/1 from 25s early) was another three lengths away in third.

"I rode him once before but didn't know much about him," Torrens said.

"He has been underwhelming but had blinkers on and the one thing Philip told me to was to be positive and to keep it simple.

"It probably wasn't the best of races but he did it nicely."

STEWARDS REPORT

The Raceday Stewards requested a report from P.J. Rothwell, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Legacy Of Dreams (FR), placed first, as compared with its recent form. David Nolan authorised representative of the trainer, stated that the horse jumped great, appreciated the better ground and second time blinkers and also that he got a good positive ride. Having considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards noted the content of the report.
