Dermot McLoughlin recorded his first ever double when Larry Capri gave the local handler a quick brace in the three-mile handicap chase at Fairyhouse.
The Ratoath trainer had struck in the previous beginners chase with Clontarf and was back in the winners enclosure 35 minutes later.
Danny Hand, riding his second winner, produced his mount to challenge turning for home.
The 6/1 shot stayed on best on the run-in to record a five-and-a-half length win over Paper Lantern
“He kept going well. He jumped well and kept galloping. He said he liked the ground and kept plugging away,” said McLoughlin.
“He’s an old fashioned horse, keeps galloping, jumps well and stays all day.
“I remember Jim Dreaper telling me one time ‘the lad that keeps going has some chance - the lad that stops has none’.”
“You can have all the speed in the world but if you don’t finish out... He’s slow but he keeps galloping.
“We’ll see what the handicapper does now. He snuck in there a bit today, especially with Danny’s claim.”
