Dundalk barrier trial winner Lark In The Mornin showed an aptitude for very different ground on racecourse debut at Listowel.

Joseph O'Brien 's Soldier Hollow juvenile encountered cut in the ground in this median auction maiden over a mile as he confirmed himself to be a smart prospect.

The 5/6 favourite was switched out from fourth by Shane Crosse inside the final couple of furlongs and readily stayed on to challenge in third at the furlong pole.

His progress continued as he picked up Immutable and Nyota in the final 100 yards to score by a snug neck. Immutable took the runner-up berth at 3/1 and was a length and a quarter in front of Nyota (16/1).

Assistant trainer Brendan Powell said: "I think he is and will be a good horse, and is a big baby. Shane said he thinks he has grown even since his barrier trial (on August 30) and said he felt a bigger horse to sit on today.

"Please God he will be quite smart and he will make up into a lovely three-year-old. He is a nice, big horse with a lovely attitude and is relaxed.

"He showed a kick at Dundalk and showed it on that ground today. Shane said the ground isn't bad at all and is on the soft side of good."
