Konig Hall was given the office by Mark Enright coming to the last and the seven-year-old strode on to land the colts and geldings maiden hurdle in Ballinrobe.

Enright had Konig Hall in a close fourth over the second last and the pair moved through sweetly to track hard ridden Castelo Branco at the two furlong pole.

Enright could afford a look over his shoulder to see if anything was coming with a run as he sat motionless ready to pick off Castelo Branco.

As squeeze and a push saw Konig Hall grab the lead coming to the final flight. He jumped it well and was kept up to his work to score by a length and a half at 20/1.

Castelo Branco got runner-up money at 50/1 while Red Jacket the 7/4 favourite, came in another length and three parts away in third.

Handler Mervyn Torrens said: "The ground was too firm for him at Galway and the softer the better for him.

"I thought he'd run well today and he'll make a chaser in time."

Konig Hall's first run in Ireland was at Galway at the start of the month when he was last of 16 in an extended mile and five flat handicap. Prior to that, he raced in Germany where he had four victories on the level.
