Cogryhill lunged late to making a winning debut over fences in the Blackstairs Beginners Chase at Wexford. Thanks For Tea and Cogryhill moved through to dispute matters coming down the hill in the 3m1f contest and the former looked to be getting the better of the argument over the second last.
A mistake at the final fence seemed to have sealed Cogryhill's fate but Jack Kennedy got a great tune out of the Gigginstown gelding in the closing stages and he put his head in front near the line for a head success at odds of 7/2.
The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding was adding to wins in a point-to-point, bumper and maiden hurdle.
"I was very confident going to the last but he made a mistake. I felt I was getting there,” said Kennedy.
"He is lazy and he was just getting going when he made the mistake. I thought I might struggle to get there after the error, but to be fair to him he dug deep and he pulled it out.
"He is a nice horse, the change to fences suited him and he will probably stay in novices now."
9/4 favourite So Young couldn't make any impact from the third last and eventually being pulled up.
