With six horses coming to jump the second last in a group at Sligo the betting in-running market must have been murky, but after they jumped it Mia’s Vic was clearly going to be the only winner.
A good jump at the second last and Mia’s Vic and Derek Fox led into the home straight where they quickened up well to score by six and a half lengths.
His trainer Noel Kelly has an excellent record at Sligo. This was his fifth winner from 11 runners and he has rewarded punters with a very healthy level-stake profit of just over 37 euro.
Kelly trains in Draperstown, Co Derry, and he said: “He was a bit unlucky the last day. He was bumped at a corner and should have won [second at Perth on August 1].
“We just decided to enter him up for a maiden and it cut up badly so we had a bit of luck. He’ll probably go to Killarney and he’ll be better over fences as he has plenty of scope.
“It’s nearly easier for me to bring horses to England than in Ireland. My nearest track is Down Royal, an hour away and the ferry is an hour away from me.”
Mia’s Vic came in at 3/1, beating Whisky Galore also 3/1. Passing Through the 11/4 favourite, was 10 lengths adrift of the runner-up in third and was hammered down from 9/2 in the betting ring.
