Punters in Downpatrick got some respite when even-money favourite Kashline dotted up in the two mile seven beginners’ chase.
The eight-year-old gelding, ridden by Mark Walsh, jumped into the lead at the third last. His task was made all the easier when long-time leader Ravished fell at the second last when rallying. From there Walsh merely had to keep him on an even keel as he sauntered home by seven and a half lengths. Indian Fairy (12/1) kept on for second under Adam O’Neill.
Winning trainer Colin Bowe said: “His experience stood to him in what was probably a poor race. He was unlucky twice last year. We’ll keep him going; it will probably be a handicap chase now. His owner James Walsh is from Enniscorthy.”
Kashline had previously won two point-to-points in Lingstown (2011) and Monksgrange (2012). He was successful in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown in February 2013.
