After two winning favourites the layers got a result in race three at Listowel, the Bank Of Ireland Maiden, when Vitudurum popped up at odds of 33/1 on his debut.

Bay Of Skaill put trainer Joe Murphy back on the winning trail at Laytown last week, and under Gary Carroll Vitudurum cemented the resurgence of the County Tipperary operator with a length and three parts win over Got Trumped here.

The Choisir gelding raced in mid-division and he was pushed along entering the straight.

Switched right Vitudurum made headway on the outer into fourth over a furlong out, leading a hundred yards out and staying on well to triumph.

"He is a lovely horse and is owned by Martin Wichser, and his father, and Martin said he took a half-day today to watch the race - he said he was very nervous!" explained Murphy.

"We always liked him but all our horses were sick this summer but they are all coming back now and all our horses are running well.

"I think he will be a progressive horse and he could be a nice dual purpose horse, Flat and hurdle, down the road as well.

"I just hope we get a few more winners before the year is out to get my memory back!"

The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving Aim For Glory ridden by W.J. Lee, placed third and Freetown ridden by D. O'Brien, placed fifth, where it appeared that Freetown ran short of room on the rails and checked.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge's placings, however reminded W.J. Lee of his future responsibilities in this regard.
