Jamie Codd delivered Jet Of Magic (10/3jf) with a winning flourish at Punchestown for Denis Murphy.
The pair travelled powerfully in fifth on the heels of the leaders approaching the final quarter of a mile in this point-to-point bumper for five-year-old colts and geldings who have not run in a race under any rules of racing or in a point-to-point chase.
They shot through to lead a furlong and a half down but the race wasn't over at the furlong pole.
Clifteon Warrior, Golas Tiep and Masked Crusader were boxing on just behind but Jet Of Magic found extra in the final half furlong to move four lengths clear at the winning post.
Golas Tiep (22/1) finished second and was half a length up on Masked Crusader (9/2).
“That was nice. You could see a mile out he was travelling very well,” said Murphy.
“He's a big, raw horse. If he had been going in a maiden last weekend we would have fancied him out of the way but this is different training to what we are used to. It was nice to get it.
“He'll be a nice horse going forward because he is so big and backward.”
Asked if he would be heading to the sales he responded: “Absolutely, sure that is our gig.”
The Stewards interviewed Mr. J.J. Walsh, rider of Masked Crusader (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that he had used his whip excessively and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr. J.J. Walsh was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g)(frequency) and having considered his record they suspended him for four race days.
