There was no shortage of drama in the Barberstown Castle Poplar Square Chase with Jeremys Flame landing the Grade 3 after her two chief rivals both exited at the final fence.
Gentleman De Mee occupied his customary role in front but the 4/7 favourite’s jumping was something of a mixed bag and he was headed after two out. Coeur Sublime went to the front at this point and was about a length up on Jeremys Flame when falling at the last. Gentleman De Mee was beaten in third when badly hampered and unseating Mark Walsh.
This left Jeremys Flame well clear under Luke Dempsey to come home 54 lengths clear of Gallant John Joe with Francin the only other finisher in third.
Winning trainer Gavin Cromwell said, “It’s unfortunate for Coeur Sublime and his connections but we will never know what would have happened. She has been on the receiving end of bad luck on a few occasions as well.
“I’m delighted for her to win a Graded race. She has buckets of black type and just didn’t get her head in front.
“She’ll be aimed at the Graded races for mares and I definitely wouldn’t rule out going to Cheltenham with her.”
Paddy Power and Betfair introduced Jeremys Flame at 10/1 for the Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
