The picture changed dramatically in the closing stages of the Bar One Racing ’30 Euro Free Bet New Account Offer’ Handicap Hurdle with Jacksons Gold (11/1) storming home from off the pace to win for jockey Ian Power.

The final flight fall of Halsafari looked as if had presented the race to the 10/3 favourite Big King but this one was reeled in by the fast-finishing winner in the final strides with Strange Notions (7/1) also coming home well to deprive the market leader of second in the end.

A length and a quarter was the winning margin and it was a third win from seven starts for the Gold Well 7-year-old who only started his career last August.

He won on that debut at Roscommon and was also on the mark at Thurles in November, in addition to a very good second to Albert Bartlett contender Streets Of Doyen in between those two victories.

Winning trainer Alice Curran, based near Dungarvan, said: “He’s tough and stuck at it well. I’d say the last day in Thurles we didn’t really have him fit enough and the ground was just too heavy for him.

“He’d have no bother getting three miles but on soft ground that trip is long enough for him.

“We might give him one more run and he’ll go over fences next year.”
