Impressive win for Sands Cove in the last
Newcomer Sands Cove made a very impressive debut in the last race on the card at Roscommon this evening the Frenchpark Flat Race, for his trainer Charlie Swan with Nina Carberry in the saddle.
Despite drifting on track from an opening show of 5/2 out to 9/2 the 4yo son of Flemensfirth cruised into the lead, passing Morning Ireland over a furlong from home before stretching clear for an easy ten length win.
Another newcomer Kilrye stayed on well to take second at 25/1 for his trainer Pat Colville while the 5/4 favourite Morning Ireland, on his first start for Christy Roche, faded back to third after attempting to make all.
Winning trainer Charlie Swan said afterwards: "We got him last May or June at the Doncaster Sales. He has never come off the bridle at home but this was his first time on grass. He will go for a winners bumper next if he is not sold.
"He is the best horse I have trained."
