Hudson's Bay picked up a nice pot for trainer Thomond O'Mara when landing the competitive mile and a half handicap in Fairyhouse.

Wayne Lordan settled the five-year-old gelding in 11th of the 15 runners. With under half a mile to go Lordan gave him a few squeezes to move closer.

He was well off the bridle turning into the home straight but was seen creeping closer on the rail approaching the two pole.

He really picked up from there and motored to the front with over a furlong to race. The son of Teofilo didn't relent and galloped on to the line to win well by a length and three quarters at 10/1. Glassatura finished well for second at 20/1. This was the first time she sported a visor. Spin Point (9/2) held every chance but couldn't reel in the winner and had to settle for third.

"He actually ran well the last day. I was talking to Pat (Smullen) beforehand and he said the ground was too deep for him. It was a competitive race though and a good run," Wayne Lordan said.

"The nicer ground today was a big help. He'll be a nice horse to go hurdling with this winter once the ground isn't too deep."

Hudson's Bay won 15,600 euro with this victory.
