Daryl Jacob made a flying visit to Ireland worthwhile when guiding chasing debutant Homme D'un Soir to an easy success in the J.F. Hanley Groundscare Beginners Chase at Roscommon.
Jacob, retained jockey to owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, kept it simple on the favourite, tracking the early leaders before making his move turning out of the back straight.
Having gotten the better of leader Brown Monday between the final two fences, he moved ahead to score by nine lengths.
A decent handicap hurdler last season, the Stuart Crawford trained gelding does appear to be a better horse going right-handed, with all four career wins coming on tracks of that configuration.
“He did it well. I had him originally, before he went to Gordon we did a bit with him and we liked him back then,” said Crawford.
“He looked very good when he won first time out for Gordon and I thought he could go on to do something but he probably didn't really progress.
“He won his couple of novice hurdles and was maybe then in at the deep end a bit in handicaps.
“He's a good jumper and hopefully there is another wee novice chase in him.
“He's probably going to have to travel, I don't know what options would be here for him really.
“Daryl made the effort to come over, he rode him the last day at Cartmel and said he gave him a good feel so was keen to come and ride him.”
