Homework pays off for Lyons & Latham
Rain Delayed allayed fears about his fitness (first run since October) and the draw (fifteen of fifteen) when landing the featured Listed Cork Stakes in the hands of Keagan Latham.
The consistent four-year-old stayed on well in the final furlong to beat the gritty Miss Gorica (5s into 4s) by a head.
Shane Lyons, representing his brother, Ger, said of the Anamoine Limited-owned Oasis Dream gelding: "We thought he'd need the race but he is gutsy and I have to give Keagan plenty of credit. We walked the track twice and given where he was drawn he decided to stick on the virgin ground.
"The Greenlands (on Guineas weekend) will be next for him and then it'll be Royal Ascot. He is a good replacement for Dohasa and everyone is happy. The Wokingham was the Ascot race for him before today and we'll just see what the handicapper does with him now. He may have needed the race today but you can't keep a good horse down."
