The Michael Halford trained Vincy overcame a five months layoff to win the concluding Gabriel Curran Memorial Handicap at the Curragh today, when winning on handicap debut under jockey Conor Hoban.
The son of Elzaam was a winner on his second start at Dundalk in March and today, on his first start back, beat off Dinkum Diamond by two and a quarter lengths.
Halford later stated “he had two runs on the all-weather and is a lovely moving horse. We liked him but I wasn't positive about him on the ground, as it's pretty quick, but he handled it well.
“It's not too often you get a handicap at the Curragh with single figure runners so it was a nice opportunity to drop him in and get him doing things right.
“He's a work in progress and he's very tall; he grew a lot after winning in Dundalk and that's why I gave him a break. It's just after taking him a while to strengthen up enough that I was happy to run him.”
“He's a horse with a bit of scope and the plan was to run here and come back for the Cambridgeshire.”
