The Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial is the highlight at Leopardstown this afternoon where the ground has improved slightly and is now described as good to soft (soft in places).

Five go to post in the mile and a quarter Group 2 feature including the Aidan O'Brien-trained Breeders' Cup winner Wrote and Jim Bolger's promising Light Heavy

The Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial is the main supporting event along with another Group 3 race, the Amethyst Stakes.

The first on a seven race card gets underway at 2.15pm

Meanwhile the three-day Killarney May meeting begins this afternoon with an eight race National Hunt fixture, featuring the Ladbrokes.com Handicap Hurdle, starting at 1.55pm.

The going has dried out quite a bit in the kingdom, and is now good.

The weather forecast today is for rain spreading from the north-west to reach Leinster and Munster later in the afternoon with winds becoming gusty.

Temperatures today could reach 14C, while tomorrow is to be showery.
