Trainer Tom Foley and his jockey son Pat Foley were the second father/son pairing to win at Fairyhouse today when their Goaheadmakemyday caused a 14/1 upset to win the concluding Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Mares Bumper.
The daughter of King's Theatre was making his sixth bumper appearance and showed the benefit from those runs when racing prominently and quickening clear of her rivals in the home straight.
Eleven to four favourite and well touted newcomer She's Otto in contrast, arrived with her challenge in the closing stages and while she found top gear late-on, did stay on eye-catchingly for a half length defeat.
Following the win Foley stated “Pat gave her a good ride. No matter where you went today the ground was bad, so he kept to the inside. He used his head when the others took him on.
"I'm thrilled for the owner (Michael O'Dowd, also breeder) as he wanted to get that bumper win into the family."
Goaheadmakemyday's win for the Foley team was following on from Shannak s father and son win for Tony and Danny Mullins half an hour earlier.
Following the running of the bumper, the Stewards suspended She's Otto's rider Patrick Mullins for two days under Regulation 10.4, for not giving his mount time to respond to the whip.
