Glendine River produced a game front-running performance to gain a deserved success in the mares bumper at Cork this evening.
Declan Queally had the 11/2 shot to the fore throughout and she responded gamely when tackled by Pursecco in the home straight.
Dermot O'Brien 's charge got on top with a furlong to run and stayed on well to record a two-and-three-quarter-length victory as newcomer Jelan ran on to finish second.
Glendine River wasn't winning out of turn having been placed five times in bumpers prior to tonight.
"That's my first winner as a trainer. I only got the licence about this time last year and I have three in training,” said O'Brien who is based in Dungarvan.
"I must thank John Kiely for all his help and advise and the use of his gallops. John trained Fayr Star to win for me 11 years ago. This mare is very consistent, and will go hurdling now."
There was a nasty incident turning into the straight first time as Coolagh Moll was squeezed up and crashed though the rail unseating Finny Maguire. Maguire was none-the-worse following the fall.
