Glenderry just edged the verdict in the Irish EBF Median Sire Series Maiden at Dundalk after a good battle with Dakota Blue

The Jack Davison-trained gelding had been runner-up to easy winner Aftermath at the Curragh late last month and went to post a 7/1 shot in today's mile contest.

Billy Lee asked his mount to take a narrow lead passing the two pole and the son of Mohaather dug deep when joined in the closing stages to secure a head success.

Davison said: "It was difficult from that draw so I just said to Billy that he would get the trip and he would get it well. Feel free to make the running because he is a lovely big galloping horse. He's about 16-2 and it would be a shame not to use that stride.

"It was just a case of playing to our strengths and Billy was good and strong, and the horse was genuine in the last 100 yards.

Ben (Coen on Dakota Blue) came with what looked like a winning run at the right time, but I'd say our guy was a touch lonely as well. He did it the hard way and fair play to the horse. It is tough going for a two-year-old.

"Billy said he could be a 1m2f horse, but then again he will get stronger over the winter. He's so big, so he could end up just being a better miler. Time will tell."
