Ginger proves magic in bumper
Ginger Genie (10/1) put a disappointing effort at Limerick behind her when making virtually all under Colin Motherway to take the concluding Baganbun (Mares) INH Flat Race at Wexford this afternoon.
The five-year-old kept on well under pressure in the straight to beat the 7/4 favourite Seemuldoon by two lengths, with Slaney Conflict (10/1) another length and a quarter back in third. Smiling Lady unseated rider David Roche at the start, and the 8/1 chance continued riderless without causing too many problems for the other riders.
Winning trainer Maureen Danagher said, “I'm absolutely delighted with that. She lost her way at Limerick last time and it was probably down to the extra half mile there. She'll go for a maiden hurdle next if she is not sold in the meantime. She is owned by my neighbour Marian Barnwell.”
There was a little bit of Irish starting price history at Wexford today with the first horses to be returned at 13/1. Nora Nestegg was sent off at this unusual price and finished seventh in the bumper, while Noble Jack was also a 13/1 chance in the 2.35 (second race).
