Dermot Weld completed a double at Galway today, claiming the concluding irelandhotels.com Bumper with Fort Defiance under a well judged ride from stable amateur rder Robbie McNamara.

McNamara controlled the pace of the race, disputing the lead, and kicked for home entering the straight, eventually holding the challenge of Apt Manor by three parts of a length.

Weld was quick to praise the winning ride and said "Robbie controlled the race from the 'box' position and it was a beautiful ride and all credit goes to the jockey."

He added "Fort Defiance was fit and stayed very well - it is very nice to see Dr Smurfit's colours carried to success at Galway again as he has very few horses in training at the moment."
