Robin Des Foret opened his chasing account with the minimum of fuss on his debut over the larger obstacles in the Supermac's Beginners Chase at Ballinrobe. Last Encounter took them along in the two-mile one-furlong contest but was headed three from home by the 1/2 shot, trained by Willie Mullins.

Paul Townend 's mount was well in control when running down the last slightly and went on to record an effortless 17-length victory.

Last Encounter crashed out at the final fence as Mighty Stowaway came through to claim the runner-up spot.

The winner had been a smart novice hurdler last season, winning five over timber including a Listed event.

"He was probably entitled to do that on his hurdle mark but he still had to come here and put in a performance," said Townend.

"He should provide the owners with plenty of fun."
