The John Ryan trained Foildubh has had a busy campaign and gained a deserved second of the term, from 11 starts, when battling gamely to win the Guinness Handicap Chase at Punchestown today.

Ridden by Paul Carberry, the gelding was headed on the run-in but rallied close home to defeat Carrrigmartin.

Afterwards Templemore based Ryan stated “Foildubh is a proper horse. Robbie Colgan (jockey) did all the hard work on him but we just needed a change. Paul Carberry was brilliant on him and probably being dropped out and the step up in trip helped.

“He is going out to grass now and we'll bring him back for the Kerry National (Listowel, September).”
