Fogarty strikes on the Admiral again
Admiral Barry took a huge amount of trying before eventually returning to the number one spot at Tramore back in June and after landing the big amateur handicap at Galway the Kalanisi gelding added to his gains with another success in a valuable contest confined to the amateur riders in the inaugural Curragh Amateur Derby European Breeders Fund (Q.R.) Handicap.
Mickey Fogarty was aboard John Brennan and Eoin Griffin's 10/1 shot again and he got the better of Shamiran (ran a huge race on his first start for Stephen Nolan) by four and a half lengths.
Griffin was understandably a very happy man in the aftermath and the Kilkenny trainer said: "He is much improved this summer. He keeps improving and we're delighted with him. He'll probably go for the Cesarewitch now (at Newmarket on October 16th). Another 4Ibs for that will put him on 8st 9Ib. Chris Hayes will ride him and he'll go there with a live chance I hope."
