Dual bumper winner Sally Park got off the mark on his second attempt over hurdles at Sligo today, winning the Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle for trainer Paul Flynn and jockey Barry Browne.
The seven year old son of Flemensfirth made most of the running but was narrowly headed on thr run-in by First Class Ticket However Sally park rallied well to regain a narrow lead close home and score a neck success.
Afterwards Flynn stated “we gave him a break because we felt that he didn't cope with the heavy ground.
“He didn't jumped great today and he suffered a bit with his palate. He's probably going to have that done and then come back for something. He has a few issues.
“He won't stay hurdling for long as he'll go chasing. You wouldn't go chasing on the back of some of those jumps but he does jump fences well and maybe it was the track because he does jump well and he actually jumped well when he asked him.”
Flynn has a Galway festival 'pedigree' having won the Galway Hurdle with Moon Dice and is planning another trip west with Sally Park, adding he'll get his palate done and then go back for a hurdle race and then go chasing, probably in the Galway festival. He looked like he wanted a trip there.
“Hopefully it's the start of a good week as we have about four or five to run this week. I have a nice bumper horse running in Roscommon and I think he'll improve a lot from his point-to-point win.”
