Fisher Bridge looks to have booked his ticket to Ballybrit through his victory in the Galway Plate Trial at Down Royal.
The Ulster Cesarewitch made another winning appearance at the northern venue when he faced 10 rivals over two and a half miles.
Paul Carberry hunted him along off the pace before assuming the lead at the second last. He put six lengths on nicely-backed Carmels Boy (7/1 from 10/1 on course and 14/1 in the morning). Slieveardagh completed the placings in third, a further length adrift, at 8/1.
Paul Carberry said: “He loves this place. I thought he blew up in Kilbeggan as he needed the run. He was always travelling well and jumped very well. He kept going to the line. I’d say he’ll go to the Galway Plate.” Authinger the heavily-punted 15/8 favourite “never travelled and never felt right” according to jockey Robbie Power. He was tailed off in eighth. He was bidding to follow up on a win over course and distance in May.
