Final Approach wins Downpatrick opener

Sun 28th Mar 2010, 14:36

The Willie Mullins trained Final Approach justified his short price when winning the opening Sean Graham Bookmakers Maiden Hurdle at Downpatrick.

Ruby Walsh who sat fourth for most produced the 4/7 favourite to lead at the last and kept on well on the run-in to post a nine length win over Fearnwood Girl

Harold Kirk assistant to Willie Mullins said afterwards: "He will probably go to Punchestown now for one of the four year old races maybe even a graded race."

"He's a very smart horse and he jumped really well today, he'll be far better on a galloping track."
