Signor Ferrari justified favouritism when producing a telling burst of speed over a furlong out to land the opening Fairyhouse Summer Season Claiming Race at the County Meath track.

Just touched off here over course and distance in May, Johnny Feane's three-year-old had been somewhat disappointing on two subsequent starts.

However, the Invincible Army gelding who had won for the first time at Cork earlier in the campaign, added a second career success here.

Held up towards rear in the early stages, as Guest Star and Your Day To Shine vied for the lead, Hugh Horgan produced the well backed 11/8f from off the pace to head the former over a furlong out.

Buresting clear inside the final furlong, he then had to be brave to hold the late runs of both Latin and Tartaraghan respectively.

Winning jockey Hugh Horgan said: “For a few seconds I was starting to go into panic mode and thought it mightn't have worked out.

“Thank God I got a bit of room and I got through and he stuck his head out where it mattered.

“He has a lovely turn of foot for a mile-and-a-quarter and he stays it very well. He's a nice horse and an easy ride.”

Following this race, there were no claims.
