Fenton reflects on Dunguib run

Sat 24th Apr 2010, 16:18

Dunguib's trainer Philip Fenton reflected on his star gelding's disappointing sixth place finish in Friday's Rabobank Champion Hurdle, saying today “Dunguib ran much too free”.

Fenton, whose Woodbine Willie had just finished third in the 2m2f Novice Chase, added “I knew we were in trouble with Dunguib after he had traveled a mile as he was pulling too hard.

“He saunters away and is very relaxed at home but it is a pity he doesn't settle in his races. In a lesser race, we might have got away with it but we've no regrets about running in the race and we still have him to look forward to next season.”

To clarify riding arrangements, Fenton stated “there will be no change next year, Brian (O'Connell) will keep the ride.”
