Father and son combinations dominated at Sligo this evening, with Willie and Patrick Mullins completing the 'family four-timer' with their own winner, Glens Melody in the concluding Cleveragh Bumper.
Earlier in the day, trainer Michael Butler and his jockey son Mikey Butler won with Curragh Golan before trainer Tony Mullins supplied his son Danny with a double.
The concluding race arguably saw the best horse of the meeting in action as Glens Melody had no trouble justified 4/9 favouritism to follow up her debut win at the Punchestown Festival.
Jockey Patrick Mullins moved the daughter of King's Theatre to dispute the lead entering the back straight, went into a clear advantage three furlongs out before staying on strongly, and with the minimum of fuss, to easily defeat Cullentry Royal by two and a quarter lengths
Trainer Willie Mullins was not present but his son Patrick did later say “Glens Melody is as good as any bumper filly I've ridden this year.
“She is a sister to Ceol Rua and could be better than her. She did it easily, just hands and heels, and she can go where she wants from here. She'll probably go for a maiden hurdle.”
