"The cheek-pieces helped him," acknowledged 3Ib claimer Shane Kelly after his mount Fastidious defied top-weight in the Follow Us On Twitter Handicap at Dundalk.
Michael O'Callaghan trains the eight-year-old son of Exceed And Excel and in this seven furlong 45 to 65 affair he was soon in front from his stall five draw.
Pushed along two furlongs out, the 4/1 joint favourite was strongly pressed a furlong out.
Under pressure Fastidious edged right over a hundred yards out but he kept on well to defeat You Gotta Move by half a length.
"When I got headed I was a bit worried but he dug deep for me," elaborated Kelly in the aftermath.
"He's a grand old horse, he leads all the two-year-olds at home, and he was due that win.
"He's enjoying the game again and he looks great so it's good to get a win again with him.
"He didn't win too far so the handicapper can't be too hard on him."
S. Foley, rider of Tom Dooley trained by John James Feane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung left.
A.J. Breslin, rider of Maritime Law trained by Mrs Ann Mooney, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room on leaving the back straight and was forced to check.
